Phrasal Verb - To chip in
Finding it hard to speak during a meeting ?
Here’s a way to politely join a conversation. Use the phrasal verb : to chip in. It means to interrupt.
Like a few other phrasal verbs, they can have two meanings. “Chip in” also means to contribute to.
Examples :
- Can I just chip in before we move on to the next point ?
- I’m so happy everybody chipped in with innovative ideas for the team building day out.

Asking a question politely
“Turn the music down. It’s too loud.”
Ok, not sure the person who will hear this comment will collaborate. It sounds very confrontational and aggressive.
“Would you mind turning the music down ?”
Very different tone, don’t you think ? Much more pleasant, polite, in fact.
Use “would you mind + ing” from now on and increase your chances of seeing your requests granted.
